ABSTRACT
The consequence of every operating intervention is a scar. Some surgical scars do not heal correctly. This leads to their excess and gives rise to keloids. A keloid is usually hard, unsightly and goes beyond the original condition of skin damage. The treatment of scar tissue formations is not limited to one standard and it requires from a physician wide knowledge of a range of applied healing methods. In recent years intensive development of phototherapy methods has been observed, which in many cases support basic treatment and showing great therapeutic effects. In this work, the results of keloid treatment in a 63-year old patient after surgical operation of an inguinal hernia are presented. In the treatment, polarized light interventions were applied, with positive effects. The use of a physical factor – light – with healing parameters permitted easing of the feeling of constant pressure and tension of the keloid as well as its considerable fading. The obtained preliminary results form the basis for conducting further clinical research on a larger group.
