ABSTRACT
Chronic hepatitis B and C are among the most common liver diseases. A prolonged necroinflammatory process may lead to life-threatening complications although in some cases the liver condition remains stable for many years. Due to its unpredictable prognosis, a great deal of research has been carried out to find additional factors that modify the course of these diseases. Adipocytokines, substances secreted mainly by adipose tissue cells, have become the object of various studies due to their pluripotent impact. This paper aims to present the interrelationship of selected adipocytokines and hepatitis B and C, as well as the potential use of this knowledge in medical practice.
